Over the past 25 years, Viet Nam has rapidly scaled up HIV services and made significant progress in preventing new infections and reducing AIDS-related deaths. These achievements have been made through the combination of strong Government leadership across multiple sectors, the participation of affected communities and civil society, and an effective collaboration between the Government of Viet Nam and international development partners. However, HIV prevention and HIV testing coverage for key populations – people who inject drugs, sex workers and men who have sex with men – is still far below the level required to contain the epidemic, and tens of thousands of people living with HIV are in need of HIV treatment.
